Session 4
Session 04 (2024-08-09)
The Southern Beacon
We gathered enough information to speak with a smith or professional for an assessment. Barrick learned that the glass floats were broken but repairable, and that the flame eruption likely damaged the lenses. Bikke investigated the boat near the Southern Beacon, which was sufficient to get us back to the dock but not across the river.
The mist retreated as the sun rose.
The Lazaretto
We walked back to the fork in the trail and met Lepett, a deformed half-elf guard suffering from the rot. He offered to let us into The Lazaretto to see Mother Isabel Verduna. The Lazaretto was surrounded by a basic wooden palisade with carts of bodies out front. Inside, we saw a burn pit being used for garbage and several buildings. Mother Verduna led us to the Temple of Ilmater to rest.
Mother Verduna shared that the Rotting Disease had been around for about 35 years. She mentioned that Corina Barlucci had worked with The Vintner after returning from Riatavin. [[Pedestrian Wolves/PCs/Kira Fe’lorin|Kira]] noticed some plants from the Feywild and learned that Mother Verduna had purchased them from an Eladrin merchant. Mother Verduna shared cuttings of plants with [[Pedestrian Wolves/PCs/Kira Fe’lorin|Kira]] and discussed the disease’s progression and its effects.
Everyone in the party but Bikke began to experience a sense of emotional exhaustion, a malaise the caused apathy and disengagement, on the southern shore.
The Ith
We left The Lazaretto with Lepett, and Dander picked us up at the dock at the scheduled time. Dander reported that Ergzett Rukk had been locked up for nearly decapitating a human merchant
As we neared the north shore, the emotional exhaustion and apathy faded.
Port Maraisa
We met Delridge and Gavin asked him to give Mother Verduna a bottle of port as a thank you. Barrick inquired about glass work for the lighthouse and Delridge wasn’t sure, but suggested [[Calimshan]]. Gavin, [[Pedestrian Wolves/PCs/Kira Fe’lorin|Kira]], and Bikke went back to The Gold Coin to get some sleep.Hugh and Barrick went to The Vintner’s Frolic to get drunk and learned more about Boblin’s arrest.
Rowan is at The Vintner’s Frolic and tending bar when Hugh and Barrick arrive. Rowan told us that Ergzett Rukk was arrested and detained in Magistrato Falcone’s cellar. Rowan witnessed an old, fat, bald, pale robed merchant losing a bet and entering a room with Port. Some moments later, a thick sheet of blood was flowing out of the rom under the door. Port was sitting in the corner, bored and cleaning her nails while the merchant bled out.
Rowan heard that Ergzett Rukk had blood on his cuffs and the merchant’s purse. The merchants companions left town quickly after the incident. They had accents suggesting they were from Darromar.
After drinking with Rowan, Barrick and Hugh returned to The Gold Coin to sleep as well.
The next morning, we went to see Magistrato Falcone at City Hall. We described the fight with the banshee and the damage to the Southern Beacon. Dominico confirmed that getting parts for the lighthouse would be complex and mentioned that the glass designer was in Memnon. He asked us to help interrogate Ergzett Rukk, who had apparently killed a wool merchant named [[Mathis]].
Dominico’s Basement
We headed to Dominico’s basement where Boblin was being held. Gavin tried to charm Boblin, but it failed. Boblin claimed he did not break any law and explained that [[Mathis]] had broken a contract involving halfling kids from Riatavin. Boblin suggested capturing merchants and bringing them to Bad Doric to free him.
Gavin interrogated Ergzett Rukk effectively, extracting a confession. Boblin admitted to arranging the raid on the halfling caravan that the party discovered in The Orphaned Halflings. Boblin typically kidnapped people out east and trafficked them into Riatavin by selling them to the wool merchants. This time was a little different because the merchants pushed the childrens’ family out of their homes to make them available for the raid and these particular children would earn extra money from a third party. See the new quest The Traffic Jamming for a more detailed summary.
[[Pedestrian Wolves/PCs/Kira Fe’lorin|Kira]], Hugh, and Barrick executed Ergzett Rukk for his crimes and the entire party informed Dominico of the results of the interrogation.
The Runaway Merchants
We decided to chase down the companions of the dead merchant on the road to Darromar. Kira tracked them to Riatavin, where we found a cart with two riders. After a brief fight, we captured the merchant Grottio Montony and interrogated him. He revealed that Etienne Auttencort wanted slaves and that Albrecht Moray had arranged for specific children to be sent through The White Skull . We tied up the merchant and brought him back to Port Maraisa as evidence.
Summary for next time
Last time, we investigated the Southern Beacon and discovered significant damage to the lighthouse, including broken glass floats and potentially damaged lenses. After dealing with a banshee and uncovering the tragic history of the Barlucci family, we returned to The Lazaretto. There, we met Lepett, a diseased, deformed half-elf guard, and learned more about the Rotting Disease from Mother Isabel Verduna. We also discovered that some of the plants in the area were from the Feywild, purchased by Verduna from an Eladrin merchant. After resting, we left The Lazaretto and learned from Dander that Boblin, aka Ergzett Rukk, had been locked up in Falconer’s basement for nearly decapitating a human merchant.
The next morning, we met with Magistrato Falcone, who asked us to help interrogate Boblin. During the interrogation, Boblin revealed a complex scheme involving the kidnapping and trafficking of halfling children. He admitted to arranging a raid on a caravan and suggested capturing merchants to bring them to Bad Doric. After executing Boblin for his crimes, we decided to chase down the runaway merchants. We tracked them to the road en route to Riatavin, where we captured and interrogated Grottio Montony. He revealed that Etienne Auttencort wanted slaves and that Albrecht Moray had arranged for specific children to be sent to Etienne Auttencort through The White Skull. We brought Grottio back to Port Maraisa as evidence.
