A Light House Divided
A Light House Divided
The Southern Beacon lighthouse in Port Maraisa is [[Session 01 (2024-05-24)#^03df3b|unlit]] and impacting the safety and speed of trade along the Ith River near Riatavin.
Tasks
- Learn more about the labor dispute between The River Guild and The Merchant Consortium.
- Did the river guild break the Southern Beacon in the first place, causing Agostino to perform repairs?
- Explore the Southern Beacon and relight it
- Learn more about Corina and Julietta from Mother Verduna
Events
- Destroyed the banshee of Corina Barlucci.
- Cleared the Southern Beacon.
- Notified Magistrato Falcone of the beacon’s status.
- Received agreement from Mother Verduna that, once repaired, residents in The Lazaretto may help maintain the lighthouse between supply runs.
People
- Lorenzo Varisi - leader of the River Guild - Rumored to be responsible for the beacon being out
- Agostino Barlucci - Lighthouse keeper and alcoholic father of Corina Barlucci and Julietta Barlucci
- Julietta Barlucci - Discovered deceased in the internal mechanisms of the Southern Beacon, likely killed when the lighthouse mechanism was repaired by Agostino
- Corina Barlucci - Banshee haunting the Southern Beacon, destroyed by Scout Group Sling at great personal peril in [[Pedestrian Wolves/Session Journals/Session 03 (2024-07-21)#^BansheeKillers|Session 3]].
Dermal Dilemma
Dermal Dilemma
A [[rotting disease]] has struck Port Maraisa and is generating strife in the city. Is this an unfortunate natural event, or is there some foul play at work?
Notes
- The disease leaves bark-like scars when the lesions go away
- Mother Verduna claims the disease isn’t contagious, but Delridge claims folks who visit the The Lazaretto get the disease. 1
- Delridge states that Mother Verduna believes the disease is an infection from the plants. 2
- Travel to The Lazaretto to have a conversation with Mother Verduna about staying healthy while traveling to and from the Southern Beacon.
Tasks
- Investigate the The Lazaretto
- Ask around town about folks getting sick: Who is getting sick? Any common behaviors or traits?
- Meet Delridge at The Big Tree at about midnight on the evening of Eliant 24 to take a boat across the river to The Lazaretto. This cost us 15GP.
- Talk with Mother Verduna at the Lazaretto about how we might help.
Events
People
- Delridge Berryroot - Initial source of information including curious claim that halflings aren’t getting ill. Subsequent conversation with Delridge clarified: Halflings don’t get sick often, but they invariably die when they do. 2
- Mother Verdura - Healer leading efforts to help and quarantine the infirm.

The Missing Moray
The Missing Moray
Armitage del Veign ordered us to discover what happened to Albrecht Moray:
- Why was Albrecht in Port Maraisa?
- What did Albrecht learn while he was there?
- Extra credit: Where is Albrecht now, and what happened to him?
Notes
- [[Session 01 (2024-05-24)#Twisted Axle|Session 01 - The Twisted Axle]]
- We were selected for this mission because we behaved in a more honorable fashion than most others during the Calishite Campaign.
- Albrecht Moray has disappeared in or near Port Maraisa and our job is to learn what happened and bring the information back.
- We believe Albrecht was travelling alone or with a very small party.
- Albrecht Moray is a competent, low-profile member of the Moray family. His disappearance suggests either an opportunity or a threat to the Corsi, so we need to learn more.
- Richard and Armitage are too well-known to perform a mission like this themselves. We should have more freedom to discover what happened and why.
- Our cover is as [[Session 01 (2024-05-24)#^b269c8|agents of Armitage collecting a wine shipment]].
- We do not know the nature of Albrecht’s disappearance, but the Corsi learned of it by intercepting a message to the Moray informing Albrecht’s family. The nature of the note suggests the disappearance was not intentional, but even this is uncertain.
- The Corsi are holding the note for a week before releasing it to the Moray to give us a head start. The Moray in the north of Aurelian will learn of Albrecht’s disappearance at about the time we arrive in Port Maraisa to start investigating, giving us about a head start of about 7 days.
- We do not have a physical description of Albrecht Moray.
- We should try to earn the trust of Magistrato Falcone in Port Maraisa.
- He is loyal to House Auttencourt and unlikely to be swayed by money, but he would be a valuable ally to the Corsis if we can convince him that’s where his interests lie. 1
- We will probably earn his trust by stabilizing the city.
- Session 02 (2024-06-30) - Greg, Session 02 (2024-06-30) - Brian
- Ordered wine from Kingsley on 24-Etrian. Expect wine to arrive in 4-6 weeks on his trade caravan. 70GP are due on delivery of the wine.
- Met with Magistrato Falcone to establish contact and learn what we need to do to earn his trust.
Tasks
- Discover what happened to Albrecht Moray.
- Maintain our cover
- Order some Ankhapurian wine
- Receive the wine shipment
- Earn Magistrato Falcone’s trust. Dominico possesses a communication network we can use to contact Armitage.
- Resolve Dermal Dilemma
- Resolve A Lighthouse Divided
Events
- Received assignment at The Twisted Axle
- Received a [[Session 01 (2024-05-24)#^91e9dd|writ of introduction and authority]] from Armitage del Veign to act in his name.
- Arrived at Riatavin with Dante Rossi about 5 days after receiving the assignment.
- Traded in horses for about 150 gold to fund the remainder of the investigation.
- Left Dante in Riatavin to look after other business.
- Arrived at Port Maraisa on foot about 2 days later after combat with orcs and kobolds. (Quest: The Orphaned Halflings).
- Gavin asked the proprietor of The Gold Coin for information about a “traveling noble”. Talmadge claimed ignorance, but implied a bribe might be helpful. No bribe was offered and the conversation ended there.
- Ordered
- Destroyed the banshee at the Southern Beacon ([[Pedestrian Wolves/Session Journals/Session 03 (2024-07-21)|Session 3]]), resolving Falcone’s request in A Lighthouse Divided.
People
- Armitage del Veign - Quest giver. Assignment made at The Twisted Axle
- Albrecht Moray - The missing Moray family member.
- Dante Rossi - Armitage’s man. Horse provisioner and escort through Aurelian to Riatavin.
-
A previous version of this note claimed Falcone was loyal to the Hesse. This has been corrected. ↩︎
The Orphaned Halflings
The Orphaned Halflings
We discovered Elara and Finnegan, a pair of young halfling orphans, and must help them find a new home.
We handed the children over to Delridge because we expect our own work to be dangerous. Delridge promised to find them a family who would care for them.
Events
- [[Session 01 (2024-05-24)#^269ea6|Session 01]]
- Encountered orcs and kobolds attacking a small halfling caravan on the road to Port Maraisa
- Fought off the orcs and kobolds, but all adult halflings were killed.
- Recovered the children Elara and Finnegan, their property, and their horse Cinnamon.
- Brought the children to Port Maraisa and found Delridge Berryroot who was willing to find them a home and accepted their property and horse.1

The Traffic Jamming
The Traffic Jamming
We’ve uncovered a trafficking ring involving Boblin, The Wool Merchants, Etienne Auttencort, and Albrecht Moray.
Notes
We determined the following from interrogating Boblin and Grottio Montony:
- Etienne Auttencort regularly purchases slaves from the wool merchants.
- Etienne Auttencort places an order with the wool merchants.
- The wool merchants contact Boblin with the order.
- Boblin works with contacts, likely remnants of The White Skull, east of Port Maraisa to take captives that meet Etienne’s order.
- Boblin sells the captives to the wool merchants.
- The wool merchants return to Riatavin with the kidnapped captives and sell them to Etienne Auttencort
- Boblin killed [[Mathis]], the wool merchant, because a side deal went wrong:
- Boblin and the wool merchants were approached by Albrecht Moray with a special contract.
- Albrecht Moray asked them to abduct the halfling children themselves and send them to Etienne Auttencort in Riatavin.
- We foiled the job when we resolved The Orphaned Halflings.
- Boblin killed [[Mathis]] because the halflings were no longer with the caravan when he arrived to capture them, constituting a breach-of-contract in Boblin’s estimation
- Albrecht’s contract required that the children spend time with The White Skull in Bad Doric. It was not immediately clear why.
- The children were described as having small incisions on the back of their necks near the hairline. The meaning of this is unclear
Tasks
- Bring Grottio Montony to Dominico as a witness of the crimes.
- Grottio died from apparent food poisoning on the return.
- Explore Bad Doric
- Clear the town
- Explore the temple
- Find out what The White Skull are doing there.
- Report back to Dominico Falcone.
Events
- Interrogated Boblin ([[Pedestrian Wolves/Session Journals/Session 03 (2024-07-21)|Session 3]])
- Captured and interrogated Grottio Montony ([[Pedestrian Wolves/Session Journals/Session 03 (2024-07-21)|Session 3]])
- Grottio Montony died of food poisoning during Session 04b (Narrative Intermission)
- Killed White Skull occurpants in Bad Doric and the neighboring Order of Hospitalers Temple. Found a number of journals in the temple.
People
- Magistrato Falcone - Quest giver, if unwillingly, by deputizing us after we interrogated Boblin.
- [[Mathis]] - The merchant that Boblin killed.
- Grottio Montony - The merchant that we captured while they were fleeing to Riatavin after the murder of [[Mathis]].
